Assay Development - Intern / CO-OP

HJST is seeking an intern to assist with the development and validation of biological and chemical assays on our automation platforms. This candidate should be comfortable with wet lab techniques as well as nucleic acid analysis methods, such as qPCR and sequencing. This is a full time summer internship position with the possibility for extension throughout the school year. 


Responsibilities

  • Conducting biological benchtop assays, including cell culturing, nucleic acid capture, qPCR, and sequencing
  • Adapting biological assays to HJST's novel automation and miniaturization platforms
  • Validating the performance prototype hardware to automate nucleic acid analysis methods


Skills

  • Experience with wet lab techniques, including aseptic technique
  • Experience with cell culturing, PCR, and sequencing
  • Effective communication skills


Qualifications

  • ​​Pursuing a BS in Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or related fields



Associate Bioengineer - Full Time

HJST is seeking an Associate Bioengineer to develop and validate biological and chemical assays on our automation platforms. This role will also assist in designing, developing, and testing prototype miniaturized automation instruments to perform a myriad of biological applications. This candidate should be comfortable working a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers.


Responsibilities

  • Developing benchtop assay for nucleic acid analysis and synthetic biology methods
  • Adapting biological assays from traditional benchtop scale to HJST's novel automation and miniaturization platforms
  • Validating the performance prototype hardware to automate a myriad of biological application
  • Assisting in the design, development, and testing of prototype laboratory and field portable instruments


Skills

  • ​Experience with wet lab techniques, including aseptic technique
  • Understanding of various biological assays, such as cell culturing, qPCR, and sequencing
  • Experience with hardware prototype development and validation
  • Comfortable operating and debugging prototype instrumentation systems
  • Additional experience in mechanical design, electronics, or software is a plus.


Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Bioengineering or related fields
