​Mechanical Engineer - Entry Level - Full Time

HJ Science & Technology, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and validate novel technologies for concentrating and analyzing a myriad of biological and chemical targets. The key responsibility is to develop prototype instruments that address automation and miniaturization challenges associated with standard life science technologies. This candidate should be interested in biological applications as well as comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers.


Responsibilities

  • Designing benchtop prototypes to tackle automation and miniaturization challenges in life science applications.
  • Developing instrumentation to perform automated fluidic routing, temperature control, pressure control, and mechanical actuation processes.
  • Assembling field portable and benchtop scale instruments through rapid prototyping methods to be deployed in beta testing campaigns.
  • Validating the performance of prototype instruments to match gold standard technologies in a myriad of life science applications.​

Experience & Skills

  • ​Experience with CAD, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, including 3D printing and laser cutting
  • Basic understanding of automation hardware, such as pumps, valves, and motors
  • Basic understanding of standard biological assays, such as PCR and ELISA
  • Additional experience with optomechanical design and electronics is a plus
  • Additional experience with programming microcontrollers is a plus


Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.



Associated Research Engineer - Entry Level - Full Time

HJ Science & Technology, Inc. is seeking an Associate Research Engineer to design, develop, and validate novel technologies for concentrating and analyzing a myriad of biological and chemical targets. The key responsibility is to adapt benchtop biological and chemical assays to automated and miniaturized technology platforms. This candidate should be interested in mechanical design as well as comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Adapting biological and chemical assays to benchtop platforms consisting of novel automation and miniaturization technologies.
  • Developing instrumentation to perform automated fluidic routing, temperature control, pressure control, and mechanical actuation processes.
  • Validating the performance of prototype instruments to match gold standard technologies in a myriad of life science applications. 


Experience & Skills

  • Experience with wetlab techniques, including cell culturing and PCR
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, including 3D printing and laser cutting
  • Basic understanding of automation hardware, such as pumps, valves, and motors


Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
